Long Wait Ended with $6m Lotto 6/49 Win

When it comes to playing lottery games you do sometimes need to be patient. Canadians Lana and Joery Leung have been playing the same numbers for the past 36 years. Finally, they paid off and won the couple $6 million in the March 16 Lotto 6/49 draw.

The Burnaby residents bought their winning ticket from the Lucky Mart (that has certainly lived up to its name) in Vancouver. They have been buying tickets from that store for years and always playing the same numbers.

We got lucky

It’s not surprising that Lana said at a news conference: “We got lucky that day.” The numbers that they have been continually using come from family birthdays. It was their son who first believed his parents might have won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot.

A few days after the draw he’d seen on Instagram that the top prize had been won and the winning ticket sold in Vancouver.  He recognised the winning numbers so swiftly texted his father to ask asked if they had bought tickets for the draw.

There was no reply, so he went to see him. His father was watching television in bed when told of the possible win. They had bought tickets and then discovered that the selection of 01-03-08-14-15-16 had won them the $6 million top prize. Plenty of screaming and crying then followed that amazing discovery of their fantastic win.

Move house?

The couple had been making plans on buying a new house. You would imagine that after this big Lotto 6/49 win they’d be rushing down to the estate agents. That’s not the case and they have decided to stay where they are. “We can’t move now, because this is the house that we won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot in!” said Lana.

Joery says that he will continue to work but is planning early retirement. His wife has two jobs at present but will quit one of them. Other plans include paying off their daughter’s mortgage and buying a new car for their son.
