Last Minute Purchase Wins €14.67 million Irish Lotto Jackpot

Buying a ticket at the last minute led to a family from Dublin, Ireland winning a €14.67 million Irish Lotto jackpot.

The lucky family bought their winning ticket online for the Irish Lotto draw held on January 27. They have opted to remain anonymous but a family member did speak about their fantastic slice of luck.

Some of the best decisions are made on the spur of the moment. That was the case here with the spokesperson admitting: “To be honest, the ticket purchase was totally last minute.” An American syndicate did the same and  won a $1 million Mega Millions prize.

It was 7pm when they decided to buy a ticket, just half an hour before the deadline.  Time was running out to make their purchase and it was too late to go to the shops so instead they went online to make their Irish Lotto purchase. No wonder they now say: “We have definitely learned one of the benefits of playing online."

Speechless

The spokesperson revealed he was the one who checked their ticket soon after the draw had taken place. They said the amazing discovery of their win left them “speechless for a few minutes.” Then it was time to start telling the other family members the incredible news.

Most of the winners were in utter shock at the fantastic news. The spokesperson said that they didn’t have problems sleeping that night.

Since then, they’ve been counting down the days until they could claim their Irish Lotto cheque. That’s when they finally saw their huge win in writing, always a magical moment.

Also collecting a big cheque was a €500,000 EuroMillions Plus winner from Tipperary, His big win was also discovered on the night of the February 16 draw.

No way 

He wasn’t initially sure that his ticket had won and admits to nearly convincing himself “there was no way that this could be real,” but it was.

Maybe he’ll have even more luck in the upcoming €130 million (£111 million) EuroMillions Superdraw on March 15.
