Conference Premier side Grimsby Town have received a boost in their bid to win promotion back to the Football League. EuroMillions winners Lee and Sue Mullen have invested £50,000 in the club who currently lie fourth in the table.The couple won £4.8m in 2011 playing EuroMillions and are big fans of the club. They’ve now purchased 500 shares worth £100 each in the club who were relegated from the Football League at the end of the 2009-10 season.Lee, 44, said he’d decided to make the investment because he was “a bit fed up” at recent criticism that the club had a lack of ambition. So the EuroMillions winner decided to take some action and help his favourite club as “I thought it was time somebody put their money where their mouth was.”After holding discussions with the club it was agreed their investment would be spent on “a player who would have an impact.” That’s led to the signing of 26-year-old striker Christian Jolley from League Two Newport County.Mullen revealed that since his EuroMillions win he was offered an executive box at Manchester United. He turned that offer down and now Lee and Sue, 44, have had an executive box at the club for the past two years, and attend home games with their “Grimsby Town mad” son Declan, 10.At present the side are fourth in the table, nine points behind leaders Barnet with a game in hand. Only the champions win automatic promotion with the next four teams having to play-off for the other promotion spot. The club have lost in the play-off semi-finals for the past two seasons in a row. Lee believes it’d be a “tragedy” for Grimsby if they didn’t win promotion this season but is “fully confident they will.”While the couple were able to invest in the club because of their EuroMillions win, Lee believes there are others in the town who can also invest in the club.
