Joking Australian Wins $5m Saturday Lotto Prize

Sometimes just as you are about to do something, someone else beats you to it. That’s what happened to a jovial male $5 million Saturday Lotto winner from Kempsey in  New South Wales, Australia.

It was Sunday August 14 when he was about to check the ticket he’d purchased for the previous day's Saturday Lotto draw. Just before he was about to do that, a phone call was received from the lottery company.

His ticket had been registered so they knew who was one of four first division entries that shared the $20 million Saturday Lotto jackpot. “Oh man! I could hug you!” was the immediate response from the shocked player.

The winner then explained how he was about to have a drink, sit down and see if his Saturday Lotto ticket had won anything.

Special numbers

He’s not a regular lottery player and only plays when there is a big draw. That was the case on August 13 so off he went to buy a ticket. He used family birthdates and special numbers for his selection and it paid off big time.

He just couldn’t believe that he’d “pulled off” a big win and said “I’m floating now. I’m having a hot air balloon ride in mind.” Now he plans on using his Saturday Lotto winnings to pay off his house. The win has come at just the right time for him. “ I also need a new car as my current one is past its used-by date.”

Off to Greece

Other plans for his windfall include taking his family on holiday. They love Greek food so a trip to Greece is likely. “I’ll come back looking like a puffer fish. I’ll eat so much,” joked the Saturday Lotto winner.

His winning ticket was purchased from Chaddies Newsagent & Store in Kempsey. It's owned by Gem Fuller who recalled how emotional she became when discovering the store had sold a $5 million winning Saturday Lotto ticket.

“From being ecstatic to being shocked, it was a flood of emotions!” said the store owner who only recently took over the store.
