A woman from Council Bluffs in Iowa was looking forward to a weekend of celebrations before scratching off a lottery ticket and revealing yet another reason to party.Makayla Garrison told lottery officials that she was due to celebrate her friend’s and boyfriend’s birthdays, as well as her new job. A cohort of Pembrokeshire neighbours declared that they had a weekend of celebrations ahead of them after each winning on the People’s Postcode Lottery.Ms Garrison collected her $100,000 scratch off prize late last week, explaining that the weekend would now be jam-packed with celebrations before beginning her new job on the Monday. An Irish scratch card winner won €200,000 and received a new job offer on the same day.The 26-year-old told Iowa Lottery officials that she bought her crossword scratch card ticket for the first time, explaining that she usually buys the smaller games but never expects to win. Another Iowa scratch card winner bought a different ticket to her usual and ended up $30,000 richer. The $100,000 lottery winner was still struggling to form words as she claimed the prize, “And I don’t know, I just – I don’t know,” the shocked scratch card winner said, explaining that the news was still sinking in.Ms Garrison’s $100,000 prize was one of 21 top prizes available on the Iowa Lottery’s ‘$100,000 Mega Crossword’ game, and she is the second player to claim that top prize. “I have five words,” the winner said of the moment she realised she was a winner. “Five words isn’t on the ticket, and then I kept looking at it and I was like, ‘Well four words is $30 and six words is $100,000.’ So, I kept looking and I was like, ‘I think I found another word.’” A UK Lotto winning syndicate from Scotland were adding their £1 million-win celebrations to the birthday festivities of one of the members.The lucky winner told lottery officials that she bought her winning ticket from Eddy’s Fas Mart on E Broadway Ave in Council Bluffs, and after she scratched it off she took it to another store in the Eddy’s franchise to have it validated. Ms Garrison said that when she took it into the store, the clerk insisted on calling the other Eddy’s store to let them know about their big sell.
