Identity of $1.35 billion Mega Millions Winner May Be Revealed

January 2023 saw a man from Maine win a $1.35 billion Mega Millions jackpot. Just who they are remains unknown but that may change due to a legal battle with his ex.

Many US states do not allow big winners to remain anonymous. Maine is one of those states but this Mega Millions jackpot winner found a way around that. A limited liability company was formed and it was that which claimed the winnings.

It’s believed that when he won his fantastic prize, the winner asked his daughter’s mother (now his ex-partner) to sign a nondisclosure agreement. One that had been signed, she was legally bound not to tell anyone of his win but he claims she told his father. However, his father claims the Mega Millions winner himself revealed he had won.

Situation worsens

The situation worsened as she accused him of being behind a threatening message she received. That threatened to have his ‘security team’ take their daughter away. Court papers say that she found this “extremely distressing” and became concerned for her daughter’s “safety and well being.”

It is also alleged that the Mega Millions winner attempted to offer money to his ex in return for custody of his daughter.

Now the case is due to go to trial and that could see the Mega Millions winner finally have his identity revealed. A judge has ruled that if there is a trial, then the winner will not be able to remain anonymous. Recently, last December’s  $1.2 billion Mega Millions jackpot winner was revealed as Rosemary Casarotti.

His legal team have now filed an appeal aimed at delaying the case. They say revealing his identity would put the winner and his daughter at risk. The judge accepts this may be the case but has stated the only way he can retain his anonymity is if his lawsuit is dropped.

Another jackpot win

The  new-look Mega Millions draw  produced a $112 million winner from Ohio on April 18. The next draw is on Friday with a $60 million top prize.
