Husband Doesn’t Tell Wife About $30 million Lottery Win

How long would it take you to tell your wife of a big lottery win? A Chinese man from Litang only identified as Li claimed a near $30 million lottery win and revealed he had yet to tell his wife and child of his success.

His big win came in the October 21 Chinese Lottery draw. He had bought 40 lottery tickets and each of them had the same seven numbers. Amazingly, his numbers were the ones that were drawn out and he won nearly $30 million.

Realising how much money his lottery ticket was worth led to a sleepless night. He didn’t tell his family what had happened and the next day travelled to Nanning where he could claim his secret prize.

Don’t lose the tickets

The weekend was spent in a hotel room as he was scared of going out. Not surprisingly, he was scared of losing the lottery tickets that had made him a millionaire. Eventually, he went to claim his winnings.

At the presentation ceremony he dressed up in a yellow mascot costume.  Why hasn’t he told his family about his lottery win?  He fears that the lottery windfall might make them “feel superior to other people and will not work or study hard in the future.”

The lottery winner has had to pay taxes on his big win. He’s also made a $688,000 donation to charity, leaving him with $23.6 million.

Li says he has been playing the lottery for over 10 years. The past few years have seen him playing the numbers that eventually made him a millionaire. He chose them because they “looked pleasing” and they certainly do now.

A ray of hope

The numbers have only produced a few small wins. However, he sees playing the lottery as a hobby and it gives him a “ray of hope.” He hasn’t decided what to do with his winnings aside from that charitable donation. Telling his wife and child might be a good idea as it’s believed his win will be considered to be a joint asset with his wife.
