The manager of O’Grady’s Spar and Topaz told lottery officials that he was in shock after he was contacted to be told that one of his customers had won the top prize.“The ticket came out of our machine. It’s great,” said the hurler, who took over the management of the store from his parents, Donie and Ruth, in 2012. “The lottery rep rang me around half past ten last night to tell me the ticket was sold in our Spar in Ballingarry,” he added.Mr O’Grady continued to say that he was in shock when he first heard the news, finding it hard to believe that his store in a tiny town in a small country had actually managed to sell an Irish Lotto ticket worth almost €4 million. “It’s great for the locality and it’s great for rural Ireland,” he added, saying that he hopes the buzz will continue in the area for a while as it no doubt did in Tralee after lottery winner Jacinta Hobbart won a luxury trip to New York City thanks to the National Lottery’s Bigger Better Lotto Dream Holiday competition.“There’s great excitement, everyone is coming in checking tickets just to be sure,” he said. This sounds like the atmosphere in the SuperValu store in Killiney Shopping Centre after it sold a €7.3 million Irish Lotto ticket earlier this year. Mr O’Grady admitted that the Irish Lotto winner has not yet come forward, as far as he knows, but predicted that they will probably want to take some time before they make their claim.
