How Not to Keep a £1 million Winning Scratchcard Safe

Craig Haggie from Liskeard in Cornwall, England fancied a burger for lunch. He also bought a scratchcard and it won him £1 million. But how could he keep it safe?

He had some time on his hands while waiting for his burger and that’s when he bought the scratchcard that has changed his life. Luke Harris from Kent, England went out to buy a loaf and then also  purchased a £1 million winning scratchcard.

Absolute pandemonium

The 36-year-old has been talking about his  scratchcard win. He described the moment when he found out he had won £1 million as “absolute pandemonium.”

His family began jumping around and screaming but his wife, Zoe thought he was trying to wind her up.

How could he keep the scratchcard safe?  The father-of-four discussed the matter with his brother, who he runs a warehouse-storage company with.

Crazy mad

A unique method was employed with the winning scratchcard  placed in a plastic bag and then taped to Craig’s body. He admits that it must have “looked crazy mad” as he twirled around to allow the roll of tape to be stuck to his torso.

It wasn’t the best of ideas though as it made the scratchcard winner rather sweaty. He decided to remove it and the scratchcard was placed in the rather unlikely place of a saucepan and put on the top of a kitchen cabinet.

Joking about that, the lucky scratchcard player said: “You clearly don't think straight when you find out you're a millionaire!"  Previous lottery winners have hidden tickets everywhere  from a cookie jar to under a mattress.

Some of the scratchcard winnings will be spent on renovating the two-bedroom bungalow they bought at auction in 2016.  That was featured on the TV show ‘Homes Under the Hammer.’ His wife can’t wait to start as it’s her favourite hobby.

There won’t be any retirement though as Zoe, 33, says they are “both still young and enjoy our jobs.” Perhaps they’ll have more luck tonight if they enter the £136 million EuroMillions draw.
