Group of Lottery Winners Go Litter Picking
The school summer holidays are nearly here in the UK. A group of 20 lottery winners have been helping to ensure those on holiday in Scotland have an enjoyable time. They’ve been out on a South Ayrshire beach picking up litter.
Those helping out have had combined lottery wins of nearly £100 million.Their task has been not just to clear up litter on Troon’s south beach but in particular search for small pieces of plastic. Clearing up the latter greatly helps the local environment.
The litter picking was in association with the environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful. It proved to be a busy time for the lottery winners. Nearly 30 sacks of rubbish were collected during the day. This included everything from plastic bottles and caps to wet wipes and cigarette ends.
Lesley and Fred Higgins won a £57.9 million EuroMillions prize six years ago. Don’t forget that this evening the jackpot in that lottery is an amazing €174 million (£146 million) so get your tickets now from our site.
Unbelievable finds
Mr Higgins said that he couldn’t believe some of what was found while picking up litter. “It really is quite unbelievable what can be washed up on our beautiful beaches.

In 2016, Alison and John Doherty from Renfrewshire, Scotland won £14.6 million and they were among the lottery winners helping out. Alison said that it had helped her learn “so much today about our coastline.”
The lottery winner added: “Myself and fellow winners support numerous charities throughout the year and it is always a great feeling to be doing something so worthwhile.” Recently more lottery winners helped the Baby Basics charity.
Close to her heart
Being from Scotland herself, the Scottish coastline is “very close” to her heart. Helping out has made her think more “about all of the little things which we can all do to ensure we are all living in the best possible environments.”
In the past, Keep Scotland Beautiful has received five National Lottery grants totalling £1.7 million.
