Grandfather Predicts $1m Scratchcard Win

Perhaps your grandfather really does know best. Dalton Radford from Dallas, North Carolina, USA, was told by his grandfather that he’d win $1 million. That’s just what happened two weeks later when his teenage grandson won that amount on a scratchcard.

It was a busy day for the 18-year-old as he has two jobs.  He’d already finished his first job of the day but there was more for him to do. Dalton was making his way to the second one when he took the decision to pop into Will’s Food Store III. He purchased a White Monster energy drink but also decided to buy two scratchcards. That proved to be a great decision to make. 

Dalton is a public work employee and tried his luck on the Carolina jackpot game. He was in the store’s car park when checking to see if he’d had a win. You can imagine how shocked he was when he realised that one of them had won him $1 million.

Everyone was happy

Within minutes he was on the phone letting his family hear the news of his $1 million scratchcard win. His mother, father and grandfather were all called and “everyone was happy,” he recalled.

Perhaps his grandfather wasn’t too surprised at the news. After all, two weeks prior to the big win, he’d told his grandson he’d win $1 million and that’s just what has happened.

The prediction was only partly correct. Dalton had the choice of taking a lump sum payment of $600,000 or receiving the win as annual payments of $50,000 over a period of 20 years. The teenager opted to receive his win as the one-off lump sum payment. That’s now subject to tax and his final win was $426,063 (£348,971).

A new truck please

He plans on saving most of his scratchcard winnings. One purchase he does intend making is a new truck. A brand new Chevrolet Silverado is the intended make that he’ll be buying. It’s not known if his grandfather also predicted that.
