GOOD AND BAD NEWS FOR £6.4M EUROMILLIONS WINNER RYAN MAGEE
EuroMillions winner Ryan Magee from Eglinton in Derry, Ireland will be back driving earlier than he'd expected after winning his appeal against a driving ban. However his court woes are far from being over.Just like lottery winner Barry Howie, Magee, 34, became a millionaire via the EuroMillions lottery winning £6.4m in February 2008 after buying 11 lottery tickets at 11 different outlets. Some lottery winners go out and buy a new Corvette for themselves while others prefer to give a present to their wife with their lottery windfall, but this car loving lottery millionaire splashed out on a Ferrari sports car within days of his win. He followed that up by buying a house that was equipped with a champagne bar.All hasn't gone well since his EuroMillions win. His Ferrari was involved in a crash, his business went bust and he put his luxury house up for sale.In June Mageee, who has several driving convictions, received a five-year driving ban after pleading guilty to driving while disqualfied and without insurance in December 2014. His sentence also included 200 hours of community service and a £250 fine. This week an appeal against that conviction was held in Londonderry and his defence barrister argued that the five-year disqualification was extreme and five times greater than a previous ban imposed on his client last year for the same offence. The judge reduced the driving ban to two and a half years and said he had no idea that Magee had "been involved in a game of chance and managed to be successful."He's the latest lottery winner to fall foul of the law after £148.6m EuroMillions winner Adrian Bayford was sued over a golf buggie accident and $188m Powerball winner Marie Holmes from North Carolina, USA, was arrested on drugs charges. However the EuroMillions winner will be back in court on 29 September after being charged with assaulting his partner four times between 1 and 2 August.
