French Ticket Wins Record €220 million EuroMillions Jackpot
History was made on Friday October 15. A ticket sold in France won the record €220 million (£182 million) EuroMillions jackpot.
The jackpot had been rolling over since September 3. Since then, we’ve had a EuroMillions Superdraw on September 25 that saw the jackpot enhanced to €130 million (£111 million). That resulted in a rollover and the jackpot kept on climbing until reaching the jackpot cap of €220 million.
After one more draw that failed to produce a winner of the top prize, Friday finally saw the record jackpot won. Who has been lucky enough to become a multi-millionaire isn’t yet known as the winner has yet to come forward. All that we do know is the winning ticket was sold in France.
The win for France is their 114th jackpot winning ticket. That puts them level with the UK for the most tickets sold that won a jackpot. They are both two ahead of Spain on 112.
The lucky numbers
The numbers drawn in last Friday’s EuroMillions draw were: 21-26-31-34-49 and the two Lucky Stars 2 and 5. With that selection, it’s clear that the winner(s) did not use just birthdays and anniversaries for their numbers.
Number 21 made an appearance for the first time since the August 24 EuroMillions draw. 31 hadn’t been seen since the draw held on August 27. There was no long wait for number 49 to be drawn, that also came out on October 12. Lucky Star 5 was making its second appearance in three draws.
More millionaires created
There were some other big winners in Friday’s EuroMillions draw. There were seven second-tier winners, all missing out on one of the Lucky Stars. Four tickets sold in the UK each won £3,679,293.50. On the continent, a ticket in France won €4,608,445.70, could it have been another success for the jackpot winner? The other two second tier winning tickets were both sold in Portugal.
The EuroMillions jackpot is £14 million for the October 19 draw. Perhaps it might keep rolling over until the new jackpot cap of €230 million is reached?
