Forgetful Moment Leads to $30 million Australian Powerball Win
An Australian syndicate won a $30 million Australian Powerball jackpot in the October 24 draw. It was a big surprise for them because they were supposed to be playing a different lottery.
The syndicate was formed by 15 players from Western Australia aged in their 30s to 60s. Each will receive $2 million from their Australian Powerball success.
How did they end up playing a different lottery? Well, the syndicate was formed seven years ago and usually plays the Saturday Lotto. Only when there is a jackpot of at least $50 million do they play other lotteries.
Glory not grief
However, last week their leader forgot to buy a ticket for that lottery. Speaking about what happened, he said: “I couldn’t believe it when I realised I forgot to buy our ticket for Saturday Lotto. I was thinking of the grief I was going to get on Monday at work.”
Seeing that there was a $30 million Australian Powerball jackpot, he decided to buy a ticket for that draw instead. What a great decision that has proved to be.
Their jackpot win is the first time in 2024 that a ticket bought in Western Australia has won the Australian Powerball jackpot. The syndicate leader is now planning to retire early and travel around Australia with his wife in a caravan.
What would be the first item you’d buy after winning a big lottery prize? One of the winners of this jackpot said she bought a pineapple as that’s her ultimate treat.
Other members of the winning Australian Powerball syndicate are planning to help their children, visit overseas relatives or go on luxury holidays.
Last year a player in Western Australia went a whole month before finding out he’d won a $40 million Australian Powerball jackpot.
Fruitful win
One winner of the group joked that as soon as she heard the news she bought a pineapple, saying the sweet summer fruit was the ultimate treat for her.
Other winners plan to retire early, help their children, visit family overseas and book the luxury holidays of their dreams.
