Florida Ticket Scoops $214 million Powerball Jackpot
A ticket sold at a Publix in Miami Shores, Florida won a $214 million Powerball jackpot in Monday’s draw.
Just the one ticket was able to match the numbers 07-23-24-56-60 and the Powerball 25. It’s the third Powerball jackpot win of the year. The largest top prize won was the massive $1.326 billion shared by three people last month. One of the winners was cancer patient Cheng ‘Charlie’ Saephan.
Big decision to make
The winner of Monday’s Powerball jackpot is yet to come forward and claim their winnings. When they do, there’ll be the decision to make on how to accept their windfall. It can either be the full amount paid in 30 installments or a one-off payment of $100.1 million. Both will be subject to the payment of taxation.
It was certainly a lucky day for lottery players in Florida, USA. Monday May 6 saw two Fantasy 5 draws held and both saw the jackpot won. The first was held at midday and saw one ticket sold in Miami Gardens win $54.7 million. In the evening draw, a ticket purchased in Fort Pierce won the $118.4 million top prize.
Lucky Florida
This is the 17th time that a ticket sold in Florida has won the Powerball jackpot. The last success was in June 2021 when a lucky player won $285.6 million. That came just three months after a Florida ticket scooped $235.4 million.
The largest ever Powerball win by a Florida ticket was in January 2020. On that occasion, the successful ticket holder won a fantastic $396.9 million.
Last year didn’t produce any jackpot winners but there was still some success in Florida. In March 2023, Kenneth Foy won a $1 million second-tier prize. Speaking about his win, the lucky winner said that he only occasionally plays if he has “a couple of extra bucks” in his pocket.
This is the first time since 2018 that the Powerball jackpot has been won in May. Tonight’s draw has a $20 million top prize.
