First Time Purchaser Wins $70 million Lotto Max Jackpot

American Kyle Murray had been living in Canada for 39 years before buying his first lottery ticket. It was first time lucky for him and his wife as on August 20, their ticket won a $70 million Lotto Max jackpot.

His wife, Jennifer had good reason not to go and buy their Lotto Max ticket. The 33-year-old from Iroquois Falls in Ontario had recently given birth and it hadn’t been the easiest of pregnancies.

Kyle, 39, was therefore given the responsibility of making the purchase. Never did he dream it would turn the couple into multi-millionaires.  It’s the latest big Lotto Max win in Ontario.

Murray had gone to the Timmins airport to meet his mother who was coming to stay and help looking after their new child. On his way home he stopped off at a gas station and made his very first lottery purchase. He had to ask the assistant to show him how to fill in the ticket.

When finally getting back home, he put the Lotto Max ticket on the fridge. Not long after the draw, Jennifer saw that a local ticket had won the jackpot. Could it be theirs?

Light-headed

While having her breakfast, she scanned the Lotto Max ticket and the ‘Winner’ tone began to play. “I felt light-headed.” recalled the shocked winner.

When his wife asked him to come and see her,  Kyle said he was too busy working. Eventually he went to see her and was shown the Lotto Max result. He was confused as to whether it was telling them they’d won $70 million or if that was just the size of the jackpot.

Keeping quiet

After realising they’d won the jackpot, a secret celebration took place with their children and Jennifer’s mother at a local restaurant but didn’t let anyone else know of their win.

Jennifer has always said that if a big lottery win came along, she’d buy her sister a new house. That’s just what she’s going to do now. The couple also want to buy some land and set up a farm.
