EUROMILLIONS WINNERS HAVE LUCKY ESCAPE IN COURT BATTLE

Colin and Christine Weir famously won a record £161 million jackpot on the EuroMillions lottery in July 2011, and have been spending their newfound lottery fortune on treats for themselves, helping the needy and setting up their own charity foundation. However, a contract with a conservatory firm to make improvements to their already lavish mansion home recently went sour, and a court battle has saved them from being sued by Oak Leaf Conservatories. The conservatory firm, from York, North Yorkshire, maintain that the lucky EuroMillions winners backed out of an agreed deal for the design, manufacture and installation of a luxury conservatory, pool-house and garden house at the home which they bought with their EuroMillions winnings two years ago.The firm insist that they “unlawfully repudiated the contracts” for the improvements, said to be worth an estimated £750,000 on their luxury home in Largs, Ayrshire. However, the latest turn of events have seen Oak Leaf Conservatories Limited unable to sue the Scottish lottery winners after the English High Court in London turned down their request. The judge declared that the courts in England had no jurisdiction to decide the claim, and that the English based Conservatory Company would instead need to pursue their case against the winners of a record lottery jackpot through Scottish courts. The Weirs chose to cancel the contracts and suspend all work on the lottery winning mansion after reportedly losing confidence in the builders, and insist that they can only be sued for damaged in Scotland, as that is the country in which they reside, and have done for years before they won the EuroMillions jackpot.Oak Leaf Conservatories argued in court that they did not specifically advertise north of the English/Scottish border and had been approached directly by the lottery winners. The judge, however, maintained that should they wish to proceed with legally suing the winning lottery players, they must approach the courts in Scotland. You can purchase your EuroMillions lottery tickets online at Lottery24.com.
