EuroMillions Winners Invest in Women’s Football Club
It was in 2018 that Patrick and Frances Connolly won a £115 million EuroMillions jackpot. Now the football fans have invested in Durham Women FC.
Another UK jackpot win
The news came as another UK ticket won a £65 million EuroMillions jackpot on Valentines’ Day. The prize is yet to be claimed .
Andy Carter is the Senior Winners’ Advisor at Allwyn, who run the National Lottery. Speaking about the win he said: “Wow, it’s not just ‘love’ that is in the air this Valentine’s Day, it’s ‘luck’ too.” Don’t forget to buy tickets from Lottery24 for the EuroMillions Superdraw on March 7.
It’s the latest jackpot win for the UK. Earlier this year a UK ticket won a £83 million EuroMillions jackpot.
This latest win comes seven years after the £115 million EuroMillions win for Patrick and Frances Connolly from Hartlepool in the north east of England.
Now the couple have invested in Durham Women FC who they have supported for many years.
Their dream is to see the club win promotion to the Women’s Super League and take on clubs such as Manchester United and Chelseal. They also want to “inspire the next generation of female athletes.”
The EuroMillions winners have sponsored the club for several years and have daughters who have appeared for the Hartlepool St Francis football team.
The club is going through a period of transformation with new directors. It had previously been owned by Durham University. Lee Sanders is one of the founders of the club and used to manage the first team.
Transformative
He is now a director and says the investment by the EuroMillions winners will be “transformative” and help them in their bid to build a “bespoke stadium.” He added that the club’s squad is “excited” by the news. The director joked: “Some of them say they wish they were a bit younger now.”
They are currently fourth in the Women’s Championship. To be promoted though they need to win the league but trail leaders Birmingham by just three points.
