An overnight EuroMillions millionaire
Gordon Rees, from Nottingham, England, won £1 million three years ago. He became a millionaire overnight thanks to purchasing a Lucky Dip from his local shop.Despite the £1 million prize going into his bank account shortly after the June 21 drawing in 2016, Mr Rees decided to keep working. The EuroMillions taxi driver continued for another year, until just after his 64th birthday.“I’ve always enjoyed driving,” the EuroMillions millionaire said. “They were a great bunch of lads at the company I worked for.” He continued to say that he enjoyed the jokes and conversation in the taxi office.“I came to the conclusion that with all that money in my pocket, I couldn’t bear to take any money off my customers, so I decided to finish.” He added that his lottery win has certainly brought him a lot of good fortune.
The EuroMillions win turned his life around
When he won his EuroMillions prize three years ago, Mr Rees had recently split from his long-term partner and was living in a small council-estate flat.Since his win, he has bought his own house, a car and treated his children. He’s also been on a few holidays.Despite his comfortable position, the EuroMillions taxi driver hasn’t splurged. He still enjoys time away at his friend’s caravan. “I’m just a down to earth person who got lucky,” he said.The 64-year-old doesn’t plan to make any more large purchases but will continue to enjoy his busy social life. In the near future, he’s hoping to take his children to Disneyland in the USA.
