€5.5 million Irish Lotto Winners Dig Their Success
If you were lucky enough to win a massive lottery prize, how would you keep your ticket safe? A recent successful Irish Lotto syndicate from Limerick had a novel way of ensuring they didn’t lose their €5.5 million winning ticket.
The two-player syndicate won their prize in the Irish Lotto draw held on September 25. They recently collected their winnings and revealed just how they ensured their ticket wasn’t lost. It was put in a jar and then buried in their garden for a few weeks.
In total, their Irish Lotto winning ticket was worth €5,501,086. One of the syndicate members explained that the night before they headed to Dublin to collect the winnings, they had an important duty to perform, namely digging up the jar. Another Irish Lotto winner kept her €250,000 winning ticket in her handbag.
Instantly recognisable
The other lucky winner saw the Irish Lotto draw live on television. The same numbers had been used for the past twenty years so were instantly recognisable. Their television was paused and a few glances made at the winning numbers.
Then, after a few seconds of silence two different kinds of celebrations took place as the winner explained: “One of us was jumping around in excitement while the other was numb in total disbelief.”
Shock to the system
One of their favourite programmes, ‘Fair City’ was on next but they were still in shock and can’t remember what happened. A sleepless night followed after what they describe as “such a shock to the system.”
The lucky players say they will continue to occasionally play lottery games. Plans for their Irish Lotto win include living an easier life and travelling around the world.
Also celebrating a €250,000 Lotto Plus 2 win from September were a family syndicate from Laois. The night after the draw had taken place, one of the syndicate members saw there’d been a local win of €250,000.
They checked their ticket online and ‘big win’ came up. Now they’re planning a holiday to celebrate.
