€500,000 Lottery Winner Quick to Claim His Prize
There were plenty of joyous stories to be told when Irish players collected their lottery winnings earlier this month. One lucky winner couldn’t wait to claim their winnings, the other initially had no idea of her big win.
A man from Kildare was still in shock after winning a €500,000 EuroMillions Plus prize. He’d been at home watching television when deciding to check his ticket. “I wasn’t really thinking anything of it,” he said but that was soon to change.
Quick claim
By the time he’d got three numbers correct his attention to the lottery ticket began to rise. He just couldn't believe it when realizing he’d won €500,000. Some winners take a while to claim their prize. Not this one.
He claimed his win the following morning, explaining: “I was determined to get rid of the ticket and claim my winnings as soon as possible.” The lucky winner now plans on taking his time working out how to spend his €500,000.
Who’s that calling?
Also celebrating was a woman from Limerick in Ireland. Her lottery win was a fantastic €139,269 in the August 5 Irish Lotto draw. The lucky player didn’t see the draw live and until receiving a phone call had no idea she was a big winner.
It was a puzzling call to start with as she didn’t recognise the number. Then it turned out to be the National Lottery Claims Department making the best phone call of her life.
Still a bit unconvinced about what she was hearing, the puzzled player logged into her lottery account while still on the phone. What she was hearing was correct, she was a big winner.
“I was jumping for joy when I saw the winning amount staring back at me,” recalled the lottery winner. “Thank God I answered the call,” she added.
How will her winnings be spent? “It was certainly an unexpected amount to win so we are hoping to put the funds to good use and take a holiday over the coming months to celebrate.”
