€19m Irish Lotto Jackpot Claimed

A family from Co Mayo have claimed the record €19m Irish Lotto jackpot won on January 15. They have asked to remain anonymous but have told how their win will help their family and others.

No one had won the Irish Lotto jackpot for over six months. The rules had to be changed so a must-be-won draw could be held. That saw the Co Mayo family buy their winning ticket from Laura Scriney’s XL shop in Castlebar.

Their ticket matched 02-09-16-30-37-40. Their family spokesperson tried to recall what it was like when finding out about their Irish Lotto win.

Out of body experience

“I had the ticket in my hand and to see the six numbers come out one after another was like an out of body experience – it’s impossible to explain,” they said. However, then the doubts began to creep in about whether the family had won the elusive Irish Lotto jackpot.

The family were frantically scanning their ticket and then came the big moment. Around 20 minutes after seeing the results, a message came up on the National Lottery App saying, “You’ve won big!”  The spokesperson said that was “such an incredible moment.”

Don’t bother checking

Speculation grew about who had won the Irish Lotto jackpot. That greatly amused the family as they watched interviews on television. One said he’d better check his ticket just in case he had won. One of the actual winners began shouting at the television. “Don’t bother checking because we’ve got the winning ticket here”

Even with that message, there was still doubt in their minds. Even when claiming their Irish Lotto win in Dublin, they thought someone might say tit was a mistake. Thankfully, no one said that at all.

The family haven’t confirmed how they will spend their winnings. They do want to get mortgages paid off and help family and friends. Some charitable donations will also be made. Their spokesperson said: “It really is such an exciting time in our lives, and we can’t wait to get started to changing people’s lives.”
