€19.06 million Irish Lotto Jackpot Finally Won

The Irish Lotto draw finally produced a jackpot winner on Saturday January 15. The must-be-won draw saw the €19.06 million top prize won by a single ticket sold in Castlebar in Co. Mayo.

The last jackpot win in the Irish Lotto draw had been on June 9. The €19.06 million jackpot cap as reached three months ago, but still no one won the top prize. The lottery regulator was then asked if a must-be-won draw could be introduced to the Irish Lotto.

Permission was given and finally a winner was produced. There was actually no need for such a draw as one ticket finally managed to match the six main numbers to win the record Irish Lotto jackpot.

The numbers drawn were: 02-09-16-30-37-40 and the bonus ball 23. There were so many people wanting to buy tickets that the Irish Lotto app crashed, meaning some players missed out on the draw.

Amazingly, there were 149 second-tier winners in Saturday’s Irish Lotto draw. They all matched five of the main numbers and the bonus ball. Recent draws have only seen a handful of second-tier winners. One of those winners walked away with over a million euros. On this occasion though, the second-tier prize was only €36,687.

The Irish Lotto jackpot winner is yet to come forward. Castlebar seems to be a very lucky place to buy lottery tickets. This is the fourth jackpot winner in eight years, with over €80 million won. The winner isn’t local teacher Lorna Cloherty but she thinks it’s great there’s been another big win.

The speculation over who won is mounting, especially if someone doesn’t turn up for work. Lorna said, “if someone isn’t in are they missing because they’ve won the Lotto.” The teacher added: “Whoever won it is probably keeping it tight to their chest and rightly so, I’d do the same if it was me.”

For there to be a must-be-won draw again, there must be five rollovers after the jackpot cap has been reached.The next Irish Lotto draw is on Wednesday January 19 with a €2 million jackpot.
