El Niño Draw to be Held on January 6
The new year gets off to an exciting start with the El Niño draw on January 6. This is another traditional Spanish lottery draw and has a prize fund of €700 million. It could be the perfect way to begin 2022 if a big win comes along.
Those who weren’t lucky enough to get a win in the El Gordo de Navidad draw will be hoping for better fortune on January 6. Don’t forget that you can buy your El Niño tickets from Lottery24, so make your purchase today.
All about the child
If you are wondering why this draw is held on January 6, well there’s a very religious reason. This is the date when it is believed the Three Kings from the East reached Bethlehem. They visited the newly born Jesus and gave him their gifts of Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh. If you translate ‘El Niño’ into English, it is ‘The Child.’
As is the case with the El Gordo de Navidad draw, this lottery is a little different than many others. Again, we have children drawing out the winning El Niño numbers.
The draw takes place at noon at the State Lottery and Betting Hall in Madrid. Unlike the marathon four hour El Gordo de Navidad draw, this takes around half an hour to complete.
This traditional draw dates to 1879 when funds were raised to build the Children’s Hospital of the Child Jesus in Madrid. It became known as the El Niño draw in 1941.
Big prizes to be won
100,000 tickets are printed, and these have codes that are numbered between 00000 and 99999. Each ticket has 50 copies and split into tenths. The most common purchase is a tenth, so if you win the jackpot of €2m, your prize is €200,000, a tenth of the jackpot.
There are plenty of other prizes that can be won in the El Niño draw. The second prize is €75,000 with the third-tier prize being €25,000. With lots of chances to get a win, this is a draw not to be missed.
