El Gordo de Navidad Winning Numbers Revealed
All eyes were on Spain’s traditional El Gordo de Navidad draw on Friday December 22. Those with the number 88008 had the most reason to celebrate. That won the top prize of million earning each player who’d purchased a tenth €400,000.
Spectacular ceremony
Anticipation was high and boosted by an emotional advertising campaign. It had been another spectacular draw held at the Teatro Real theatre in Madrid. Schoolchildren from Madrid’s San Ildefonso school sang the winning numbers as is tradition in the El Gordo de Navidad draw.
In all, the El Gordo de Navidad draw took four hours to complete, the longest in the over 260 years history of the lottery.
There aren’t many lottery draws that see attendees dressed as everything from a Roman centurion to a squirrel and even a witch and a hot dog! This is like no other draw though.Others wore a Christmas tree on their head or a multicoloured wig.
Wins across Spain
A lot of the El Gordo de Navidad jackpot winning tickets were sold in Madrid. One set of winning tickets was sold by a lottery shop in Arenal Street in Madrid. One of its staff said “several days of celebration await us.”
This year’s lotto had a massive €2.59 billion prize fund. Other top prize winning tickets were sold in Ecija, Seville and Jaen. Players from all over Spain were lucky enough to get some kind of win.
Customers at a Lottery store at 1 Ancha de Seseña Street (Toledo), also enjoyed success.
Owner César Puebla revealed that 672 tenths of the fifth tier winning tickets had been sold by his store. The fifth tier in the El Gordo de Navidad draw has a €4 million prize fund. He said that most of the winners were employees of a nearby Mercadona.
EuroMillions jackpot won
Later in the evening a ticket purchased in Portugal won a €55.6 million EuroMillions jackpot. More big wins will come in 2024 with the first EuroMillions Superdraw announced for January 26 with a €130 million top prize.
