Did Laundry cost woman a $26 million SuperLotto Plus Win?
It’s always a good idea to check all the pockets of clothing put into a washing machine. A woman from California claims she is the owner of a ticket that won $26 million in the November 14, 2020 SuperLotto Plus draw. However, she has been unable to claim her winnings.
The lucky ‘winner’says that she bought the SuperLotto Plus ticket and then put it in her shirt pocket. Laundry time arrived and totally forgetting her alleged purchase, her ticket went into the washing machine.
Ticket Lost
Her winning ticket didn’t survive the washing machine experience, so had she missed out on her huge win? Desperate to claim her winnings, the woman went to the ARCO am/pm store in Norwalk, California to see if they could confirm her purchase.
The manager of the store has checked their surveillance footage and had no problem recognizing the winner. That’s because she is a regular customer at the store. She has asked to remain anonymous, but we do know that she’s in her 40s.
The surveillance video footage was shown to the California Lottery. However, that still wasn’t enough evidence to confirm she had bought a $26 million winning SuperLotto Plus ticket. Their rules state that to claim a win, the successful ticket has to be presented. If that isn’t possible, hard proof is needed to prove ownership, such as a photo of the front and back of the ticket.
Time Runs Out
Time has now run out for the winner to claim her SuperLotto Plus win. With the prize unclaimed, the cash value of the jackpot ($19.7 million) has been transferred into a public education fund. Even though the woman has missed out on her win, the ARCO am/pm store hasn’t. They have been given a $130,000 commission for selling the winning ticket.
This isn’t the first washing machine related lottery story. In the UK five years ago, a woman tried to claim a £33m Lotto win. She claimed her winning ticket had been put in her washing machine. No win was paid out to her with her story unproved.
