Delayed Traveler Wins $5 million Scratchcard Prize

No one wants to be stuck waiting in an airport lounge. Donna Osbourne from Pennsylvania, USA, didn’t and it led to her winning a $5 million scratchcard prize.

The 75-year-old has recently completed radiation treatment for breast cancer. Her big win came playing the Monopoly Own It All scratchcard.

It’s a win that would not have happened if her flight to Florida had been on time.  The soon-to-be millionaire was at the airport with her daughter. Both were looking forward to returning to Florida to see their family.

Flight delays

Then the plane delays began and Donna decided to return to her home but not before buying a scratchcard  “If  I didn’t leave the airport, I would have never bought that ticket!” said the lucky player.

Her winning scratchcard was purchased from a gas station near her home in Lancaster County. It was scratched off while she was still in the car park.

Recalling the moment she discovered her big win, the 75-year-old admits “I could not believe my eyes!” In fact, she had to go back into the store to ask for her scratchcard to be checked again.

“Is this what I think it is?” said the disbelieving scratchcard winner. It was and it really was worth $5 million. “I about fell over,” was how she felt after being told she was a millionaire.

Her daughter had waited at the airport and eventually made it to Florida. Then she received a phone call from her mother explaining the amazing happenings. As is often the case, her daughter didn’t initially believe what her mother was saying but eventually believed the news.

No retirement

Just like  a recent $13.33 million Oz Lotto winner,  Donna has no intention of retiring. For several decades, the great-grandmother helps provide transport for the Amish community

“I don’t know what I’d do with myself; I have to keep moving,” explained the scratchcard winner. Now she plans  to make some investments and travel to Alaska. A trip to Florida is also planned. Will she be patient and wait for her plane next time?
