Circus Fun and Games at Lottery-funded Carers Event
Circus Fun and Games at Lottery-funded Carers Event
Being a young Carer is a difficult job and every now and again, carers deserve a treat. A group of lottery winners recently organised a special day at Blackpool Tower for carers and their siblings.
Among the lottery winners from the North West of England (who had combined winnings of nearly £40 million) helping out were Ian and Sandra Black from Carlisle. They won a £2 million prize earlier this year.
39 carers and their siblings enjoyed the giant circus-themed party. The event funded by the lottery was part of Carers Week 2022 and it proved to be an unforgettable day for those attending.
New skills to learn
Carers aged between five and 17 went home having learned some new skills. Those included juggling and some plate-spinning skills. It’s probably best not to use the latter skills while doing the washing-up.
The fun and games continued with face painting and making balloons. They even had the chance to ride a bucking bronco, a mechanical one thankfully.
The respite lead at Blackpool Young Carers is Andrew Gunn. Speaking about the lottery-funded event he said: “It really was an absolutely fantastic afternoon. We cannot thank the National Lottery winners enough.”
He added that the carers work “so tirelessly” and it was great to see them having such a fun-filled afternoon. “Just to see the smiles on their faces meant everything” was how he perfectly summed up the event.
The best day ever
One of the young carers looks after both his mother and brother. They said that the circus-themed party was “just the best day ever.” There was the chance to have a good time knowing that mum was safe and seeing her child having fun.
The event also meant a great deal to lottery winner Sandra. She spoke about how young carers “can so often be forgotten about.” Her view is that what the young carers do every day is “absolutely incredible.”
The lottery millionaire added: “Being a mother myself, this actually brings tears to my eyes just hearing some of their stories.”
