Chinese Takeaway and Beer for $20m Australian Powerball Winner
There were tears galore when a “happy” man from Cronulla in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia, spoke about his £20 million Australian Powerball win. He knew just how his win was going to be celebrated.
The lucky winner has opted to remain anonymous but we do know he’s in his 40s. He was one of two players who shared the Australian Powerball jackpot in the November 2 draw, each winning $20 million.
Tears of joy
Having not registered his ticket, the lottery company had to wait for him to claim his prize. When talking about his win, the emotional player admitted “I’m crying tears of joy. I don’t know where the tears are coming from.”
Not that he’d been miserable before learning of his Australian Powerball success. “Oh mate! I was happy before I won this, but this is just a whole new level,” he added.
He then recalled how he discovered he’d become a multi-millionaire. Looking on Facebook, he read about a $20 million winning Australian Powerball ticket being sold at the One Stop Shop in Kirrawee. That was where his ticket had been purchased so he checked his ticket earlier rather than wait until Sunday as he often does.
A lot of fun
With such a big win he now plans to use his fortune to “make a lot of other people around me happy.” As for himself, he’s determined to “have a lot of fun.” That was going to start with “some cold beers and Chinese takeaway.”
He still couldn’t quite believe he’d won an Australian Powerball jackpot. Dennis Liang, who owns the store where the winning ticket was sold said he and his staff were “in disbelief.”
The store was also getting ready to celebrate. “We’ll be putting balloons up everywhere and shouting it from the rooftops,” said the store owner. He added that it had been “many years' since his store had sold a division one winning ticket. Speaking about the successful player he hoped it would be “the start of something magical for them.”
