Cashier Error Leads to $580,000 Lottery Win
No one wants to see a mistake being made, well perhaps apart from a man from Upper Marlboro in Maryland, USA. A mistake made by a cashier led to him winning a $580,000 lottery prize.
The lucky player loves trying his luck on lottery draws. He regularly pays visits to a local Exxon petrol station to buy tickets for the September 11 draw. Therefore, the regular employees know exactly which one he wants to play. On this occasion though it was a new cashier and that led to a rather fortunate error being made.
Sorry
Instead of being given a Cash4Life ticket, a typing error resulted in him being given one for Multi-Match. The cashier was very apologetic about the error that had been made. Little did they know that a few hours later there would be nothing to be sorry about.
There was an attempt to correct the error and give out the intended lottery ticket but that wasn’t possible. Thank heavens for that!
The morning after the lottery draw had been made, the player checked the results on his mobile app. Imagine his shock when his incorrectly purchased ticket was discovered to be worth $580,000.
Biggest win of my life
Later that day when on his way home from work he decided to get his lottery ticket scanned. It was true, he really had won $580,000 all thanks to a mistake. “This is the biggest win of my life,” said the winner when claiming his prize.
His wife believed a prank was being played on her until seeing a photo of the winning ticket. The win has been described by her as “divine intervention.” “If anyone deserves this, it is him. He is a hard-working man, a good husband and a good father,” she added.
He now plans to use his lottery winnings to help his children. Some of the amount will be used to pay off their educational loans. He’ll also settle his debts and with what’s left he plans to set up an elderly patient care home.
