An early retirement is on its way for John McDowell from Edinburgh in Scotland. That’s because he won a £183,257.40 prize playing EuroMillions on September 6.
The 53-year-old works as a school caretaker and also helps care for his father. Thanks to this EuroMillions win he says: “I get to retire that little bit earlier and put my feet up sooner!” A couple from Fife in Scotland are also planning an earlier retirement after their £145,757.50 EuroMillions win.
Probably Nothing
John was getting ready to go to bed when he looked at his phone and noticed the National Lottery had sent him an email. At first he was going to ignore it as “I thought it would be nothing.”
However, he admits that “curiosity got the better of me” and he saw his ticket had matched the five main numbers and one of the Lucky Stars.
Everyone else in the house was in bed so to celebrate his EuroMillions win he simply made himself a cup of tea. Soon after he woke his father up who thought his son was pranking him.
John has been looking to buy a new car for sometime now but has kept putting it off. Now he can finally go out and buy one and a SUV-style car, possibly a Kia Sportage is on his wish list. Then he’ll be able to explore the north of Scotland.
Off to Egypt
He’s not just thinking of himself though and plans to give his family some treats. His brother has never gone overseas but that’s all going to change. Mr McDowell is looking to escape the usual cold Scottish winter weather and take him to Egypt for Christmas. His brother has had to apply for a passport so he can go abroad.
The EuroMillions winner also wants to help his daughters. Help will be given to them to get them on the property ladder “when the time’s right.”
Tuesday’s EuroMillions draw ended in a rollover. That means on Friday there will be a top prize of £24 million.
