Cancer Survivor Shocked at £60,000 Postcode Lottery Win

Bill Puffett from Bishopstone in Wiltshire, England is one of life’s great survivors. He’s battled cancer three times but had great reason to celebrate this Christmas. He received a cheque for £60,000 from the Postcode Lottery on Christmas Eve.

The 80-year-old couldn’t believe his luck when being presented with the cheque. “After everything I’ve been through with my health, this is the icing on the cake,” he said, admitting that the surprise nearly made him faint.

Indescribable feeling 

Winning a £60,000 Postcode Lottery prize gave him an “indescribable” feeling. Holding a cheque for such a high amount “just doesn’t feel real,” said the great-grandfather.

Bill has certainly been through a tough time having been diagnosed with skin, prostate and bowel cancer in recent years. At present he’s cancer-free but knows that it is always possible that a fourth cancer battle may have to be fought in the future.

No more work for Linda 

The £60,000 Postcode Lottery win will help all his family, especially his wife, Linda. Soon after receiving news of their success, she quit her senior care worker job. No longer will there be 12-hour days, four days a week.

The couple have five children and they’ll all be receiving something. Other plans for their £60,000 Postcode Lottery win include some house renovations. “We need new windows and a few other things done on the house,” said a delighted Bill.

Their Postcode Lottery win was going to be celebrated with a trip to a local pub for a Christmas family meal. Bill says their Sunday roast “is second to none.” Before that the bottle of champagne in their house was going to be enjoyed.

Another resident in the area won a £30,000 prize but they have decided to remain anonymous. Their cheques were presented by Matt Johnson who said that he had a great time “surprising Bill with such an amazing amount of money.” 

The Postcode Lottery ambassador added that Bill’s reaction “was lovely” and “he definitely wasn’t expecting it.”
