Canadian Man Wins Lotto 6/49
A man from White Rock, British Columbia has one of the strangest stories about how he found out he had won the Lottery.Tibor Tusnady scooped the recent Lotto 6/49 jackpot, and received the news while on the toilet! He chose the numbers 01, 03, 07, 13, 22 and 47 himself, and bought the winning ticket from a Surrey gas station. His total prize of almost $16.5m was presented to him at a press conference at the B.C. Lottery Corporations studio. Due to current global events, social distancing procedures were followed. While Mr Tusnady did attend in person, he was handed the cheque using a hockey stick, helping to keep the two meter distance with the presenter, CEO Greg Moore.
Exciting news
Mr Tusnady, a retired pharmacist said"It's really exciting and something that you never dream of."Understandably, he was in shock when he discovered the news, and rather than celebrating, he went back to watching the TV.A few hours later, he “confessed” to his wife that he had won, which was a double shock to her as she had no idea he even played the lottery! Between them they checked the numbers at least ten times before registering their win. They did celebrate with family and friends later, at a safe distance of course. "Obviously nobody believes it at first. Everybody thinks it's a joke," he said.Their future plans include traveling when it is safe to do so, particularly to South America. “When we travel next time, it's always first class," he joked. He has already informed his bank there is a big cheque coming, both in size and value!Mr Tusnady beat odds of about 14 million-to-one to claim the jackpot win.The B.C. Lottery Corporation has updated their rules about claiming and collecting prizes due to the current COVID-19 outbreak. Winners of amounts over $25,000 are asked to call the headquarters, while those wanting to claim smaller prizes are being told to mail their tickets, and following the new claims procedure.
