Californian Ticket Wins $1.765 billion Powerball Jackpot
A ticket sold in California won the second-largest Powerball jackpot in Wednesday’s draw. The lucky player(s) won an incredible $1.765 billion.
Lucky state
Only the $2.04 billion won last November has been higher. Playing Powerball in California can prove to be very lucrative. This latest jackpot means the four highest Powerball wins in history have all seen success for a Californian player.
No one has yet come forward to claim their jackpot win. However, it has been revealed that the winning ticket was sold at Midway Market & Liquors in Frazier Park, California. That’s around 75 miles north of Los Angeles.
Big decision
When this Powerball jackpot win is claimed, a major decision has to be made. They could receive the full amount as an annuity payment over 30 years. One immediate payment will be made and that’ll be followed by 29 annual payments. Each one of those payments increases by 5% to guard against inflation.
Alternatively, the Powerball winner could take the one-off lump payment sum of $774.1 billion. Whichever method is chosen, there will be taxes to pay.
The numbers drawn on Wednesday were: 22-24-40-52-64 and the Powerball 10. That rules out players who use birthdays or anniversaries when choosing their numbers.
The Powerball draw also saw nine tickets turn their lucky owners into millionaires. Two were sold in California. It’s possible one of those was purchased by the jackpot winner but using an unsuccessful Powerball. Two were sold in Florida and one each in Virginia, Oklahoma, New York, Arizona and Pennsylvania.
There had been 35 rollovers since the jackpot was last won. The previous success was on July 19 when a ticket (also sold in California) won $1.08 billion. It’s the first time that there has been two successive billion dollar plus Powerball jackpot wins. This is the fifth time this year that the top prize has been won. Saturday’s draw has a $20 million top prize.
