California Ticket Wins $1.269 billion Mega Millions Jackpot

For just the fourth time this year the Mega Millions jackpot has been won. The draw held on Friday December 27 saw a ticket sold in California, USA win the amazing $1.269 billion top prize.

Just hours before the draw, a ticket bought in Spain won a €44 million EuroMillions jackpot.
Then came this big win, the first Mega Millions jackpot win since September 10.

The numbers drawn on Friday were: 03-07-37-49-55 and the Gold Mega Ball 06. This is the fifth-largest Mega MIllions win.

The winner is yet to claim their fantastic winnings, who knows they might not have even checked their ticket yet.

It might take a while for this amazing jackpot to be claimed. that to happen. The New Jersey player that won the $1.13 billion Mega Millions jackpot back in March only claimed their winnings earlier this month.

We don’t know who won the jackpot but can reveal it was purchased from the Sunshine Food and Gas in Cottonwood, California.

Big decision

Whoever has won this latest Mega Millions jackpot now has a big decision to make. They can’t remain anonymous as California lottery rules forbid that.

Their winnings can be accepted either as the $1.269  billion paid  as an annuity paid over 29 years or as a one-off cash payment of $549.7 million.  Whichever payment option is chosen, there’ll still be state and federal taxes to be paid.

December is a lucky month to buy a Mega Millions ticket in California. Last year saw  two lottery tickets bought from the same shop share a $395 million top prize.  December 2022 also saw a ticket purchased in California win a Mega Millions jackpot.

Of the four Mega Millions  jackpot wins this year, each has been over $500 million and two went through the $1 billion mark.

2025 promises to be another big year for the Mega Millions lottery. Ticket prices are due to rise in April and officials say the odds of winning the jackpot will improve and there’ll be even larger payouts.
