California Celebrates $526.5 million Powerball Jackpot
For the second time this year, the Powerball jackpot has been won. Last Saturday’s draw saw a ticket sold in California, USA win the $526.5 million top prize.
The prize has yet to be claimed but we do know that it was a 7-Eleven in Anaheim, California that sold the winning ticket. The store will receive a $1 million bonus for making the life-changing sale.
The only other Powerball jackpot win this year came in January when Abbas Shafii from Beaverton in Oregon, USA won $328.5 million.
Whoever has won this fantastic jackpot can either receive their winnings as an annuity (one payment followed by 29 more paid annually) or as a one-off payment of $243.8 million before tax.
Huge demand
Saturday’s Powerball draw was due to have a jackpot of $515. However, demand was high and by the time the numbers were drawn, the top prize had risen to $526.5 million.
Just the one ticket was able to match 07-11-21-53-61 and the Powerball 2. There were five other tickets that won the second-tier prize. Each managed to match the five main balls but not the Powerball and won their owners $1 million. Three were sold in Oregon, Ohio and Texas with the other two purchased in Georgia.
Saturday’s win was the seventh largest Powerball jackpot won in the US state of California. It is a long way behind the best ever win which was the $2.04 billion won by Edwin Castro in November 2022.
Billion dollar win
That is one of four billion dollar Powerball jackpot winning tickets that have been sold in California. Saturday’s success was the seventh time the Powerball jackpot has been won in the state. Not since 2020 has California failed to produce a Powerball jackpot winner.
It was a hugely successful weekend for lottery players. The night before, a EuroMillions ticket that had been sold in Austria won a record-breaking 250 million euros.
Monday’s Powerball draw didn’t produce a repeat win. It ended in a rollover which means Wednesday’s draw has a $30 million top prize.
