Birthday Present Wins $4.8m Set for Life Jackpot

There’s nothing wrong with buying yourself a birthday present. It certainly worked for a man from Homebush in New South Wales, Australia. His present won him a $4.8 million Set for Life jackpot.

His great win will see him $20,000 a month for 20 years. He was the only winner of the top prize in the May 21 draw.

The lucky player didn’t see the Set for Life draw so had no idea he had won the jackpot. However, his ticket was registered so lottery officials knew who the winner was. The day after the draw, an amazing phone call was received by the unknowing winner.

Oh I didn’t expect this

When the phone rang, he had no idea that the most important call of his life was about to begin. “Oh I didn’t expect this!” said the surprised Set for Life winner.

He’d purchased his winning ticket the previous week when it was his birthday. Not surprisingly he says that was “a great gift.” He had been having a celebratory birthday dinner with his family. Buying a lottery ticket hadn’t been his intention that night. However, once the meal was over he randomly decided to buy a lottery ticket and the rest is history.

More fun family holidays

He was at work at the time when receiving that momentous phone call. His plan is to carry on working but plans to “enjoy more fun family holidays.” He isn’t too sure how the rest of his big Set for Life win will be spent. However, he’s certain that whatever the windfall is spent on, it’ll be “very exciting.”

His win is the 116th Set for Life jackpot won in the past eight years. It’s the ninth time that a jackpot has been won so far this year.

May has been a lucky month for players of this lottery. The May 17 draw saw a couple from North Queensland win the jackpot. The couple now plan on buying their first house after years of having to rent.
