Big Shock for $30 million Oz Lotto Winner
A man from Burnie in Tasmania, Australia heard a $30 million Oz Lotto jackpot had been won. It couldn’t be him, could it?
The Tasmanian player won his great jackpot in the draw held on August 15. He didn’t see the draw live and his ticket wasn’t registered. The latter meant that the Oz Lotto organisers didn’t know who had landed the top prize.
If the ticket had been registered, they would have been able to call the winner with the great news. Like the rest of us, they just had to wait for the winner to come forward on this occasion.
Surely not me
That didn’t take too long to happen. The lucky winner had heard that the $30 million Oz Lotto jackpot had been won by a ticket sold in Tasmania. He enters the draw every week but admits that he “didn’t for a moment think it was me.”
He was wrong of course and when his Oz Lotto ticket was finally checked, it was him who had won the jackpot. “I can’t believe it,” said the shocked winner.
Family comes first
When it comes to how his Oz Lotto jackpot winnings will be spent, he plans on putting his family first. “I want to make sure everyone’s comfortable,” he said. A new house is also on his spending list.
Being a multi-millionaire won’t end his love of playing Oz Lotto every week. “I’ve already got my ticket for next week,” he joked. Maybe in time another big win will come along.
His winning Oz Lotto ticket was purchased from the Upper Burnie Newsagency & Post Office. That’s managed by Jeremy Turner who said he was thrilled at having sold a $30 million winning ticket especially with a local player winning.
Two years ago they sold a $2 million winning ticket. His customers had been saying “we’re due to sell another big winning ticket…” and now we have,” commented the Post Office manager.
He added that his customers always ask for a winning ticket. “Now some lucky person out there has it.”
