Big Lottery Fund distributes £736,023 to community groups in Northern Ireland
Over eighty groups in Northern Ireland will receive help with their mental health and physical activities thanks to the Big Lottery Fund run by the National Lottery.A total of
86 groups will share £736,023 from the Big Lottery Fund’s Awards for All programme. This includes community groups in Coleraine, Portrush and Garvagh, Northern Ireland, as the funding from National Lottery ticket sales continue to help good causes.The St Patrick & St Joseph’s Primary School in Garvagh has received a Big Lottery Fund grant of £10,000. The funding will allow them to build a sensory room for pupils that have emotional or psychological issues.
Keep on moving
Physical activity is so important for children and there’ll be plenty of that at the Carnalridge Primary School PTA in Portrush. An adventure trail and sensory garden with an outdoor learning hut is on its way thanks to a £9,999 grant.Another £10,000 funding has been given to the Loreto College in Coleraine. Again, the mental health of pupils will be boosted due to the creation of a wellbeing room. Their resilience will also be improved thanks to the mood lighting, computers and soft seating.
Big Lottery Fund for all
Older members of the community will also receive help thanks to National Lottery funding. A £4,685 grant has been given to the Saval Cara Club outside Newry. This will help reduce isolation for older people with trips, courses and a Christmas dinner.Parents & Friends of Glenside Community have also received a £5,000 grant to help them in their work with adults who have learning disabilities. It’ll allow them to deliver singing and drumming workshops.Julie Harrison, who is the chair of the Big Lottery Fund in Northern Ireland, said she was “delighted” to announce the funding. She added that they will “bring about positive change” in the lives of the pupils and “improve health and wellbeing.”
