Beer Loving Councillor Bags £285,714 Postcode Lottery Prize

Anthony McMullen from Seaton Burn near Newcastle is celebrating a fantastic £285,714 Postcode Lottery win. Not surprisingly, he toasted his win with a beer or two.

The lucky winner just happens to be the organiser of the Newcastle Beer and Cider Festival. He was one of six neighbours who shared a £1 million Postcode Lottery prize. The  others each won £142,857 but lucky Anthony had two tickets.

Now he’s busy planning a holiday with his partner  Sarah who is a badminton coach. “Wowsers!” was his instant reaction when finding out how much he’d won. “I was only expecting £10 or probably £20,” added the almost speechless Postcode Lottery winner.

Also a Labour councillor, Anthony  will continue to work as a software engineer.  His winnings will also go towards paying off his mortgage and revamping his garden. 

“I will still be in the same car and doing the same thing I have always done,” he said and added he will still make sure “the pennis watch themselves.”

Is this real?

Among those celebrating a £142,857 win is car mechanic Mark. Initially he thought news of his Postcode Lottery win was a scam. He even blocked the number and then went to work. Only when his wife Kay called him back home to collect his winning cheque did he realise it was all very real.

The father-of-one became very emotional when discovering just how much had been won. A family holiday is on its way but Mark also wants to buy his dream car. That’s a Ford Puma ST but the shocked winner still thinks it’s all a dream. His wife said that “never in a million years' did they expect to win so much money. She added that the win “means everything to us.”

Return to Bali 

Trevor and his partner Lee are another of the £142,857 Postcode Lottery winners. They have 16 children and grandchildren between them. They will receive treats but the couple want to go to Bali where they first went on holiday together 30 years ago.
