Back to the Kitchen for £25.47 million EuroMillions Winners
2024 sees the National Lottery celebrating 30 years. As part of the celebrations, a group of lottery winners helped prepare a special meal for special guests at the Cegin Hedyn community kitchen in Carmarthen, Wales.
It was a return to the kitchens for three of the lottery winners. Louise Ward, Julie Amphlett and Sian Thomas were half of the ‘Winner Ladies’ syndicate that won a £25.47 million EuroMillions jackpot seven years ago.
The syndicate members used to be catering staff at the Neath Port Talbot Hospital in Wales. In total, they won £25,476,778.30. It was a EuroMillions win that nearly didn’t happen for Louise as she had been considering quitting the syndicate because of her upcoming wedding.
Delicious dinner
Speaking about returning to the kitchens, Julie said “it takes us right back to those years we spent in the hospital kitchen before our incredible win.” Duties for the three EuroMillions winners included preparing the food. Mocktail making, serving a delicious dinner and then washing up.
The EuroMillions winner commented: “It’s nice to be using our skills for such a deserving project.” Cegin Hedyn’s ‘pay-what-you-can’ vegan menu has seen over 10,000 meals in recent years.
In addition to helping produce the meal, the three EuroMillions winners also wrote a thank you note. This was given together with a small gift to those who have made Cegin Hedyn such a success.
More Welsh winners
Also helping out were Dave and Sarah Williams. The Welsh couple won a £1 million EuroMillions prize in June of this year. Their win came after both had been suffering from poor health.
Winning £1 million was a massive shock for Dave and he said: “I’ve pinched myself quite a bit” since their lottery success. Initially, he thought their win was £100,000.
He said “it’s amazing to meet all these other lucky winners” and added it was also good to see how the National Lottery helps community projects. Friday’s EuroMillions draw has a £42 million jackpot.
