Austrian Ticket Wins Record €240 million EuroMillions Jackpot
Austrian Ticket Wins Record €240 million EuroMillions Jackpot
A ticket sold in Austria won Friday’s record €240 million EuroMillions jackpot. It’s the highest ever jackpot won in the history of the lottery.
Just one ticket was able to match: 17-30-42-48-50 and the two Lucky Stars 04 and 05. There were also five second-tier winners who matched all the main numbers but just one of the Lucky Stars. Three were sold in the UK, each winning £1,191,020.20. The other two were sold in France and Spain giving their owner(s) €1.584 million.
This amazing €240 million beat the previous record EuroMillions jackpot of €230 million (£195.7 million) won by a UK player in July of last year. The new record could be beaten in the future as the maximum jackpot possible now rises to €250 million.
Third win of year for Austria
In EuroMillions history, Austria has sold 20 jackpot winning tickets. 2023 had already been a big year for them with jackpot wins in August and September. Those two top prize wins saw the lucky players receive just over €127 million but this win puts those successes into the shade.
Before the hat-trick of wins this year, Austria had been waiting eight years for a EuroMIllions jackpot to be won.
This is only the sixth time that a ticket has won a EuroMIllions jackpot of at least €200 million. The jackpot was last won on November 28 when a ticket purchased in Luxembourg won €83 million.
Mega Millions jackpot won
Friday also saw the Mega Millions jackpot. It was a big night for the US state of California. Two tickets sold there both matched 21-26-53-66-70 and the Mega Ball 13. Both players will receive $197.5 million.
Massive Powerball jackpot tonight
Now the focus turns to tonight’s Powerball draw which will see players trying to win a $477million top prize. The last draw was held on Saturday but no tickets could match: 05-25-26-40-60 and the Powerball 01.
One ticket that was sold in New York did manage to match the five main balls. That has won its owner(s) $1 million.
