A retired couple from Canberra, the capital of Australia, have come forward to claim a $20 million Lotto prize after spending four days without realising they were winners.The couple, who chose to keep their identities private, won $1 million on the Saturday Lotto Super Draw, which had a jackpot worth $20 million last weekend. The winners said, however, that they didn’t check their Quick Pick ticket until four days after the draw, not quite as long, however, as Kerry Poxon who took three weeks to realise her UK Lotto win.“I had no idea that our Super Draw entry had won a first division share,” said the husband, who checked his Lotto ticket in his local newsagency hoping that he might have won $20 or $30. “I wasn’t expecting to win $1 million!”“I’m speechless,” he continued, admitting that he was feeling fairly overwhelmed after being handed his cheque, just like Lee Kirk was when he won over £50,000 after accidentally buying a EuroMillions ticket earlier this year. The couple said that while they are still in shock, they feel that they have been incredibly lucky but they haven’t yet made any plans for how they will spend the money. Their shock doesn’t quite compare to that of a taxi driver from the South Coast of England who unexpectedly won six figures on the EuroMillions lottery months after winning on the UK Lotto.One thing is for sure, however, that the lucky winners of the Australian Lotto will be making sure that their children are taken care of and happy, and the husband did add “we might even upgrade to Business Class the next time we travel.” The Canberra couple purchased their ticket at the Erindale shopping centre in Wanniassa, Canberra, the only winning ticket for that draw to have been sold in the Australian Capital Territory, and they are not the only winners to have taken a few days to realise their win, just like Wayne and Desirée Home who didn’t realise they’d won £1 million on the EuroMillions until several days after the draw.Last Saturday night Australian Lotto draw also saw five winners of $1 million from the State of New South Wales, three from Queensland, six from Victoria, two from Tasmania, one from South Australia and two from Western Australia.
