Agony and Ecstasy For £400,000 Postcode Lottery Winner
Just hours after ending up in a medical centre, Debs from Salisbury, England, discovered she’d won a £400,000 Postcode Lottery prize.
Trouble in the silent disco
The volunteer worker from Wiltshire was enjoying a cruise when visiting the ship’s silent disco. One minute she was dancing away, the next the mother of one collapsed as a ligament had been damaged..
On her way back from getting medical help, Debs received a phone call. At first, she thought it was the doctors calling her. However, it was the Postcode Lottery on the phone with some stunning news.
Her postcode was a winner at that stage she didn’t know how much had been won. Around £60,000 in Postcode Lottery winnings was anticipated and Debs started planning on buying a cordless vacuum cleaner.
Just how much had been won wasn’t revealed until days after she’d returned home and been fitted with a leg brace.
Double success
It’s not her first Postcode Lottery prize as £1,000 was won in 2015, two years after she first started playing. Realising if her husband had also bought a ticket they’d have won another £1,000 Debs has been buying two tickets ever since.
That proved to be a great decision because with just one ticket, her latest Postcode Lottery win would have been £200,000. With her additional ticket, a fantastic £400,000 has been won.
That vacuum cleaner can easily be afforded now. The Postcode Lottery winner joked: I'm not the type of person who's going to go out and buy a £10,000 diamond ring." More important is looking after her family.
Gone fishing
Her husband, Pete, is looking forward to buying some more fishing equipment. “My dream has been to fish three days a week and spend the weekends with Debs. That might be a reality now."
Holidays to India and the Panama Canal are being planned. A trip to South Africa where she used to be a volunteer is also on the spending list. Before that Pete celebrated with a beer and his wife, a Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
