A Very Happy New Year for $4.8m Set for Life Winners
It’s probably a bit pointless asking a couple from Drysdale in Victoria, Australia, if they’re going to have a happy new year. They won the Set for Life jackpot in the draw held on December 30, 2024.
Their fantastic win will see them receive $20,000 a month for the next 20 years. The couple’s ticket was the only division one winning entry in the final Set for Life draw of 2024.
Retirement isn’t imminent for the couple but they have decided they’ll be “taking the pedal off the metal” from now on.
The female half of the couple was still in shock when talking about their Set for Life jackpot win. ““Wow! We’re still looking at each other thinking, ‘this doesn’t happen to people like us!’,” said the lucky player.
Their ticket was checked just before going to bed. That wasn’t their usual routine as they only usually play the Set for Life draw once or twice a month. When they do, the husband waits until the next morning to check their ticket.
Put your glasses on!
It was different this time around though and he shouted to his wife: “darl, darl, darl….I think we’ve won!” His disbelieving wife told him to put his glasses on. They both checked the results and really had won the top prize. Not surprisingly, the jackpot winning couple had a rather sleepless night.
More time to enjoy life
In total, they’ll receive $4.8 million over the next 20 years. Plans for their winnings include paying off the mortgage on their home. They won’t be quitting their jobs as they love them too much but will “take a bit more time to enjoy life.” Another Set for Life winner from Victoria said they’d retire after their win.
Their winning ticket was purchased from the Drysdale Newsagency which is owned by Sashi and Ravi Sunnam.
Speaking about selling the jackpot winning Set for Life ticket, Sashi said: “It’s an incredible moment knowing that we’ve played a part in changing someone’s life for the better.”
