$731.1m Powerball Jackpot Won
$731.1m Powerball Jackpot Won
A single ticket scooped the $731.1m Powerball jackpot in the draw held on Wednesday 20 January. An even larger win could take place this evening with the Mega Millions jackpot at $970m. This incredible week saw the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot. In fact, there have only been five other larger jackpots won in US lottery history. Just one ticket won the entire $731.1m top prize. That incredibly lucky ticket was sold at the Coney Market in Lonaconing, Maryland.
High Numbers
The lucky winner has yet to come forward to claim their life-changing prize. All we do know at present is that if they chose their own numbers, they don’t like low ones. That’s because the numbers drawn were: 40-53-60-68-69 and the Powerball 22. Anyone using birthdays or anniversaries wouldn’t have had a chance with that selection.
Whoever has won the Powerball jackpot now has to decide how they will receive it. The $731.1m could be paid as an annuity over 29 years. However, a one-off cash payment of $546.8m (subject to tax) is another option. The Powerball draw also produced 13 tickets that matched the five main balls, each winning $1m. This Powerball jackpot win is easily the largest ever won by a ticket sold in Maryland, USA. The previous highest win was the $218.6m prize won by an anonymous player in March 2012.
$970m Mega Millions jackpot tonight
If all that wasn’t exciting enough, we now have the Mega Millions draw being held this evening. That jackpot hasn’t been won since September and the estimated top prize for tonight is $970m. There have only ever been two larger jackpots than this in US lottery history. With people rushing to buy tickets, it is possible that by draw time, the jackpot could have gone through the $1bn mark. Will a ticket purchased from Lottery24 win this amazing prize?
It’s the second largest Mega Millions jackpot in the history of the draw. There’s still some way to go to equal or surpass the $1.537bn prize won by a single ticket in South Carolina in October 2018.
