$500,0000 Winning Lucky for Life Ticket Put in Anniversary Card
How do you celebrate your wedding anniversary? Shelley German from Salem in the US state of New Hampshire put a Lucky for Life ticket in the anniversary card she gave to her husband. Amazingly, it won a $25,000 a year for life prize but there’s more to this story.
Watching television can also be profitable. Mrs German only began playing the Lucky for Life draw after seeing it on the TV show ‘My Lottery Dream Home.”
The couple were celebrating their 43rd wedding anniversary. Mrs German had purchased a Lucky for Life ticket for the July 28 draw and knew it had won a prize.
Four or five?
However, her belief was that the Lucky for Life ticket had matched four of the first five numbers. Her hope was that Mr German would be delighted that they had won a prize.
Then they checked the numbers again and received a massive shock. It had in fact matched the first five numbers drawn winning them the top Lucky for Life prize. Their anniversary was becoming more special by the minute.
On August 2 the Lucky for Life winners travelled to Dorchester in Massachusetts to collect their winnings. They decided to accept their winnings as an annuity. That means they’ll receive 20 annual payments of $25,000 but this amount will be subjected to taxation.
Her first real jackpot
This isn’t the only bit of luck that they have had on their anniversary. Five years ago a raffle win held on their big day won them a new car. Despite the two big wins, Shelley says that “her first real jackpot was her husband.”
Now with this success, she says that some of their winnings will be spent on home improvements.
It’s the latest big win in Salem after a $1m success in July. That was won in the $4,000,000 Diamond’s scratchcard game. The win was claimed by Jessica Wistran on behalf of the Les Idees Trust who accepted their win as a one-off taxable payment of $650,000.
