Six years ago, Lee Mullen won a £4.8m EuroMillions jackpot. After a spell with Grimsby Town, he’s now investing in National League North side Alfreton Town and joined the board of directors hoping that one day they might make it into the Football League.Alfreton Town would have to be promoted twice to make it into the Football League. That looked a long way off this season though as they finished the season in 18th place, seven points above the relegation zone. Alfreton isn’t too far away from Retford, where a syndicate scooped a £100,000 EuroMillions prize in 2014.Two years ago, Mullen invested £50,000 of his £4.8m EuroMillions win with local side Grimsby Town and joined the board of directors. That helped Grimsby win promotion back into the football league and they now play in League Two. The EuroMillions winner decided to leave that position in January of this year and sees Alfreton Town as “the next opportunity to get back involved with football.”In 2014, a syndicate of Aston Villa fans won a £1m EuroMillions prize. Colin and Chris Weir from Scotland, who won a £161m EuroMillions jackpot, invested in their local club Partick Thistle. Former Chelsea player Terry Bradbury was celebrating after he won a £5.5m UK Lotto jackpot.The EuroMillions winner sees the National League North side as a “well-run family club.” After a meeting with chairman Wayne Bradley looking back at the history of the club and plans for the future, “everything fitted so well”, he said, and he’s now on board.One of the first jobs is to announce a new manager after the departure of Russ O’Neill. The retained and released list comes out this week and Mullens hopes that his investment will “attract the players we need, build a strong squad and mount a challenge.”It’ll take a bit of work though as they were 34 points behind the play-off positions this season. Only the champions win automatic promotion to the National League with the next four teams taking part in a play-off for the second promotion spot. Perhaps some of the money should be spent on defenders as Alfreton conceded 95 league goals this season. The team were last in the National League in the 2014-15 season.
