$221 million Powerball Win Finally Claimed

June 10 saw the $221 million Powerball jackpot won by a ticket sold in New Jersey, USA. This week the winner finally came forward to claim their fantastic prize.

Just who the actual winner is might never be known. In the state of New Jersey, it is possible to claim winnings and remain anonymous.

We do know some facts about the win though. The winning ticket was sold at the Preet Food Mart in Lindenwold. It was the only one able to match 03-10-33-58-59 and the Powerball 09.

The store owners were recently presented with their $30,000 commission cheque for selling the winning ticket.

The owner of the store is Tejinder Singh who was in bed when hearing the news of the Powerball jackpot win.

He said that the $30,000 the store has received will help them support their four children and extended family. Some shopping sprees and a holiday are on the way.

Quiet and nice guy

Harish Patel works as a clerk at the store and has been selling lottery tickets for 30 years. The clerk  revealed he’d sold the winning ticket to a “regular customer.”  

He claimed the winner was a “quiet and nice guy” who he alleged worked as a school bus driver. The clerk added that the winning ticket had been a Quick Pick.

Big shock

The actual winner said he’d come forward after hearing some inaccurate facts about the Powerball jackpot win. He then checked his ticket and amazingly discovered he was the jackpot winner.

Immediately he called a friend with the news about what had happened. As is often the case, his friend didn’t initially believe what they were being told.

It’s been confirmed that he accepted his Powerball win as a one-off payment. After paying state and federal taxes, he will receive $71 million. No plans for his windfall have so far been decided.

Last week  a ticket sold in Ohio won a $139.3 million Powerball jackpot.  The  next Powerball draw is on Friday with the jackpot $54 million.
