$16m New Zealand Powerball Winner in Disbelief

A couple from Wellington in New Zealand  thought it was a mistake when being told they had won a $16 million New Zealand Powerball jackpot.

The couple (who have asked to remain anonymous) didn’t immediately check the results of the October 19 draw. Then they saw news that a ticket sold in Wellington had won the New Zealand Powerball jackpot. Could they be the winners?

The husband of the couple soon began to wonder just that. “Ok, maybe it could be us,” he thought to himself. However, he was also thinking “Never in a million years did I think we’d win,”   He added that they aren’t regular lottery players with only the occasional tickets purchased,

Finally, he decided it was time to check their New Zealand Powerball ticket. When he did that, an amazing message came up saying that their ticket had won the $16 million jackpot. “I honestly thought it was a glitch,” said the shocked winner.

Sleepless night

There was no mistake though, the couple were the New Zealand Powerball jackpot winners. Not surprisingly, having received such fantastic news, the couple had a sleepless night. His wife told lottery officials, “I kept nudging my husband every half hour or so to see if he was asleep,”

The New Zealand Powerball winner added: “My mind was racing with all the amazing things we’d be able to do, and I needed to talk.”  She admitted to not feeling as calm as her husband but says that was because “he wasn’t sure it was actually real.”

Mortgage paid off

Now that the news has sunk in, the couple have big plans for their New Zealand Powerball jackpot win. Their days of making monthly mortgage payments are now over. The remaining amount due will be paid on one go.

Then they plan to do some house renovations. Other plans for their windfall are to help others. That includes their family and also some charities. A family holiday is also being planned all thanks to their New Zealand Powerball win.
